The Masterclass « Remote Sensing of terrestrial and extraterrestrial resources » is a one week winter school organised since 2025 in January or February by the Île-de-France Space Academy in collaboration with Paris Cité University.
Programme dispensé en anglais / Programme taught in English.
The Masterclass program, taught in English, aims to introduce participants to cutting-edge technologies in the monitoring of terrestrial resources through remote sensing and geodesy, as well as the exploration and exploitation of extraterrestrial resources. The Masterclass was designed around a central theme: understanding how technologies for observing and characterizing resources can be applied both on Earth and in the context of space exploration. Thus, the program focuses on the applications of remote sensing to agriculture, water management, vegetation, mineral exploration, and low-carbon energy. Participants explore the contributions of satellite imagery, hyperspectral imaging, and artificial intelligence to better observe and manage terrestrial resources. The program also covers extraterrestrial environments: water detection on other planetary bodies, orbital mechanics, lunar resources, regolith properties, ISRU, robotic construction, and the development of future infrastructure on the Moon and Mars. In addition to scientific and technical instruction, the program included discussions on the economic, legal, and ethical aspects of the use of space resources.
