Description<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

The evolving priorities of the scientific community, as represented by the Planetary Science and Astrobiology Decadal Survey 2023 \u2013 2032 and Voyage 2050 Programme, put renewed focus on the search for evidence of life in potentially habitable planetary environments (e.g., via Enceladus Orbilander and\/or Mars Life Finder missions). In comparison, the intentions of NASA\u2019s Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate (ESDMD) emphasize the critical need for in situ exploration\/exploitation of the lunar surface to support the Artemis program and validate operational systems for human missions to Mars. To meet these demanding objectives within the limited resources available, the development of advanced technologies needs to be accelerated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here, I will introduce the scientific promise of laser-based mass spectrometry techniques, review the design of multiple innovative laser-enabled instruments that have been adapted for spaceflight applications, and outline the steps needed to implement such next-generation technologies on future missions in support of community science goals and mission objectives.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
