This talk follows the evolution of satellite technologies and applications\, from early developments with first active relay satellites\, to the deployment of geostationary systems that made worldwide broadcasting and telephony possible. It then turns to the contemporary landscape\, defined by high-throughput satellites\, low Earth orbit (LEO) mega-constellations\, and integration with emerging 5G/6G networks. \n\n\n\nThe presentation highlights major engineering innovations that have significantly enhanced capacity\, lowered latency\, and broadened coverage. It also addresses ongoing challenges\, including spectrum limitations \, orbital debris and regulatory complexity. \n\n\n\nLooking ahead\, the talk considers the key trends and emerging paradigms that will shape the future of satellite communications.
